Behind our Pakihi ♥
We’re a whānau-led pakihi based in Aotearoa, creating kākahu and taonga inspired by our whakapapa, our tamariki, and the life we live every day.
Our roots trace back to the Tainui waka, through Ngāti Maniapoto and Ngāti Hauā, and up to Ngāpuhi and Te Aupōuri. That’s a big part of who we are, and it naturally shows up in what we create.
These connections to whenua, iwi, and whānau shape everything we do, from the pieces we create to the values we hold close.
This started from us just wanting something that felt right for our own whānau.
Pieces we could put on our pēpi and tamariki, and ourselves, that felt comfortable but also carried meaning.
As we’ve grown, that hasn’t changed.
Everything is still shaped by our own experiences, our pēpi and tamariki, and the way we move through life. The good, the messy, the everyday.
Our kākahu and taonga are influenced by te ao Māori, the whenua, and the values we were raised with, but they’re made to be worn in real life, at home, out and about, wherever life takes you.
At the centre of it all is whakapapa. Where we come from and what we pass on. That’s something we think about in everything we create.
We’ve put a lot into creating something that actually means something.
Something that feels like a warm awhi when it’s worn, and something our people can connect to.
It’s about uplifting our community and holding onto that sense of whanaungatanga, the relationships and connections that keep us grounded.
Through our kākahu, our taonga, and the way we do things, we want people to feel proud of where they come from, wherever they are.
We’re grateful for the aroha and support behind our pakihi. That support is what’s allowed us to keep building and growing this.
Every time you wear our pieces or back what we do, you’re part of it too. And that’s something we don’t take lightly.
Ngā mihi for being here, supporting us, and becoming part of our community.
Ngā mihi,
Baby Bear Whānau ♡
